Recorders
Students in Ms. Ernst and Ms. Campbell's classes will be starting Recorders in February.
A newsletter will go home the first week of school in January, explaining the upcoming unit on recorders and the need for students to have their own recorders.
A limited number of recorders are available to borrow through the school for those families that cannot afford or are unable to buy one at this time. Please let me know, In January, if you will be needing your child to borrow a recorder.
Students will start learning how to read music notation (melodic and rhythmic), in preparation for our recorder unit, in January.
Students will start playing on their recorders in the first week of February. Please ensure your child comes with his/her recorder in their backpack as of February.
I have a general rule called the Backpack rule that I teach the students right away. The basic idea is: When you are not playing your recorder, return it (and your music) to your backpack, and that way you will always have it where you need it. For instance, when they are done playing at school, they will be asked to return their recorders and music to their backpack, that way it is there for them to practice at home. Likewise, when they are done their practicing at home, they should return it to their backpacks so that they have it there when they need it at school.
Students will receive their music, as well as a letter further explaining how the recorder unit will work and how they will be accessed, in the first week of February.
