Primary Art Projects
Projects do not have to be done in order and do not feel like you have to do all activities. Students can pick and choose what they would like to do from the Music, Art, and Drama activities:) Remember to Report to Mrs. Phillips what you worked on today!
Chalk your Walk!
We could all use a little more colour in our lives these days!
Imagine if your daily walk included some amazing chalk art? What can you create! Can you send a positive message to passer-bys? Can you create a beautiful mural on your driveway? Can you put yourself in the picture! (see examples below) If you have sidewalk chalk and a patch of usable cement, then this is the project for you! Remember to send me pictures of your creations! |
Puppets!
Ms. Cooper has been doing some amazing creations with the Essential Service students at the school this week and wanted to share their wonderful creations! Check it out!
Puppets created by Ms. Cooper, Brielle, and Fiona
Today we created puppets using only things found in nature. we then created character backstories, names and traits. I present to you: A-Soakaaaaa : guardian of Nature, this nature monster was once a man who fell into a river that transformed him into who he is today... You must sing his name or you will be punished, you must protect nature or you will be punished... Joy: A shy 3 year old who has the ability to control nature and make things grow at an accelerated pace. She presents as a 19 year old because she is wise beyond her years... She will do anything thing she can to protect her beloved plants and will stop at nothing to right the wrongs of pollution. Ms. Bibbity: a teacher and mentor of the other two who works hard to ensure the world is safe... Their story is To Be Continued....... |
Want to make your own puppets? You can make yours in the same way as Ms. Cooper and Brielle and Fiona did, or you can check out this amazing video on how to make sock puppets!
Can you give your puppet a name? What's its' backstory? What special traits does it have? We'd love to see pictures of you puppets and learn all about them! |

Draw and Paint Along with Patty
This Week: Happy Flowers
Making your own paint!
Did you know that humans have been using Paint for over 40,000 years?! Since the first cavemen starting painting on the walls using materials from their environment, like charcoal and ochre, humans have been fascinated about using colour in their artwork!
Here are some examples of painted artwork by early humans and civilizations:

The Aboriginal People of Canada also created their own Paint. They used materials like Graphite (like you find in your pencils!) and ground up clam shells and Mica ( a shiny rock that added shine to their masks!). They also used different berries and plants to colour things. Here are some examples of their painted artwork:
Ideas for Creating Your Own Paint!!
So, what do you have around your house that you can make paint with?
First you need a solvent, or base. For this you need something that will dry. That could be Water or Glue or even egg yolks! (though ask your parents before using the egg yolks as you won't be able to keep this paint around for long or it will get very stinky!)
Next, figure out where your colour will come from. Examples of things you could use include: coffee grounds, mustard, beets, berries, chalk, tumeric, leaves, dandelions, grass, chili powder....the list goes on and on!
Grind the materials up and fine as you can, and then add them to the base of water or glue! And you have paint!
So, your challenge! Create your own paints and try painting with them! You could paint the bugs and beetles in the activity above, or just test out the colours on a piece of paper or cardboard!
Here are a few examples to get your creative juices going!

Self-Portrait
Draw and colour a portrait of YOURSELF! If you're not sure where to start, look at yourself in the mirror and think about the features that make you...YOU! Look at the shape of your head, your eyes, your nose, you smile, your hair colour and length. What are you wearing? Focus on your head and shoulders only.
Then add in a background!
When your picture is complete, send Mrs. Phillips a picture! [email protected]

Earth Art Project (What to do): Find your own patch of Nature - maybe it's the River, the woods, or even your own backyard! Find natural items in the environment there and gather them up. Shadow Art - Use the power of the Sun to create a new kind of art.
Let's make use of all that bright sunshine we're experiencing these days!
All you need is paper and something to draw with and a few objects of your choice:) Then simply lay them near the paper, in the sun, and draw the amazing shadows you see. A little hint - you might find it works better in the early morning or later in the afternoon, when the shadows are longer. Add details afterwards if you'd like, or colour. Then send a photo of your picture to Mrs. Phillips at: [email protected]
